Chenier Fitchette as John Densmore
Driving the rhythm with finesse and intensity, Chenier Fitchette channels the spirit of John Densmore, laying down the hypnotic grooves and dynamic beats that define The Doors’ sound.
Chenier, a self-taught drummer, originally kicked off his musical journey with The Remains, a psychedelia-influenced punk band from Melbourne’s’ South Yarra. They shared stages with notable acts like The Models, The Swingers, and more. From synth/guitar pop to swamp rock outfits, his musical journey has been diverse. Memorable gigs include supporting The Sunnyboys at The Mentone Hotel, evoking a bit of Doors-esque unpredictability, and stepping up as impromptu headliners at the Prahran Festival in 1981 after a storm forced a venue change. Recent ventures include drumming for The Bona Fide Travellers and Creedence Clearwater Survival, as well as stints with The Voodoo Swamp Daddies and another Melbourne based Doors tribute band. He’s also well-versed in the folk festival scene with Mast Gully Fellers.
Chenier’s favorite Doors song:
- “When The Music’s Over”. I think it encapsulates just about every facet of The Doors in one song.
Chenier’s favorite Doors album:
- “The Doors”. It was recorded virtually live in the studio, which gave it a raw and totally unique sound compared to other albums recorded around the same time.
Chenier’s favorite Doors song to perform:
- “The Changeling”. What an album opener. The Doors funkin’ you up!
